But there is another character who plays a major role as well in a Hindu Tamil wedding; that “character” would be the Thaali. For those of you who don’t know what the Thaali is – it is the chain that symbolizes a marriage between a man and a woman in the Hindu Tamil culture.

Mukunthan & Darmika(Ms. Organized) wanted a next day edit to show at their reception this past long weekend. I didn’t want to project regular edit for them, but I remembered a significant difference in their ceremony that they had mentioned earlier in one of our meetings. During the ceremony, when it comes to the groom putting the Thaali on the bride – it takes several family members to secure it. It is because the the screw that attaches both ends together is so tiny that it could be lost with one slip of the fingers. But Darmika was set on Mukunthan putting the Thaali on by himself as she felt that to be a more emotional connection (which by the way – I fully agree with). So within the 2 weeks I prepared mentally for a story never told before (hopefully).

Mukunthan had planned to practice tying the Thaali the morning of his wedding ceremony and I wanted to make sure that we captured it. I also wanted to add more depth to the couples idea – by paying a visit to Mukunthan’s house to film the preparation and blessing of the Thaali.

Mukunthan & Darmika were so much fun to film – they had full trust in my abilities to do what I do. So now I’ve thrown out the title of “clients”  away from them and replaced it with “friends”. Their whole family treated us as one of Darmika’s 22 cousins (and NO that is not a typo).

Me and Evan C. King (My trusty sidekick) were off to film Neha & Prakash’s Lost City Wedding and on the way we thought we can film our journey there. This was our first destination wedding but we got inside tips from some friends of ours (Saluting Michael Y. Wong). Oddly enough the weather wasn’t what we expected but the scenery was beautiful so it didn’t hold us back. We will be posting up their wedding soon so check back often.

What better way to start the year off (I know what you’re thinking – you’re thinking that its Feb) with a video clip that I had posted a teaser clip to. Kavi & Chen met me last year and they were looking for something different to do, that was a good start because I was looking for something different to film also. It took me a while to come up with their Save the Date concept, once we had that we then went through the storyboard phase, testing phase and location. Kavi & Chen arrived at the shoot location with their acting face on – I have to say… they did a very good job indeed. My better half was of course with me to help me with everything, I would definitely like to thank her (she’s also my director). Enough written words… more moving pictures… enjoy!

He gave me a stack of pictures and I sat there thinking what to do with it. Now I’ve done the whole ‘photo slideshow’ thing and it was the same thing over and over – scan ‘em or dowload ‘em and make some transitions. But not this time, I wanted to create a photoshow, so this is what I came up with.

Sathya & Gobi gave me the opportunity to film their wedding and I could not let them down. Sathya looked beautiful on her wedding day and Gobi graced the floor as a king and I was there to capture the magical moment. The families were all smiles all day – and being surrounded by happiness gets anyone excited – its contagious. The colors were so vibrant, it itself lit up the place. When I initially imagined shooting Sathya’s & Gobi’s Ceremony, I wanted to do something different – so I decided to go old school on the music and start the highlight off with a different shot. Congratulations Gobi & Sathya!
